Ab dem 7. Lebensjahr zählt ein Hund zu den „Senioren“, dass muss aber auf keinen Fall heißen, dass Dein Hund nun schon typische Altersschwächen oder graue Haare bekommt! Aber langsam verändert sich sein Stoffwechsel und der Verdauungstrakt wird etwas träger. Vielleicht ist Dein Hund mittlerweile auch etwas ruhiger geworden und steckt nicht mehr ganz so voller Energie wie noch vor ein paar Jahren. Weniger Bewegung in Kombination mit einem langsamerem Verdauungsorganismus erfordert nun kleine Anpassungen in den Futterrationen.

Hundefutter für Senioren hat weniger Kalorien, ohne dass die Menge dabei reduziert werden muss und ist an den Vitamin- und Mineralstoff-bedarf eines Hundeseniors angepasst. Ziel des angepassten Futters für ältere Hunde ist es Übergewicht zu vermeiden und den Hund dabei optimal mit allen Nährstoffen zu versorgen.

Wenn Dein Hund eher zu Untergewicht neigt, kannst Du ihm sein bisheriges Futter aber auch bedenkenlos bis an sein Lebensende weiter füttern!

Dein Hund beginnt unangenehm zur riechen oder bekommt Verdauungsprobleme?

Wie schon beschrieben wird das Verdauungssystem im Alter etwas langsame und vor allem die Leber tut sich nun schwer hohe Mengen an Fleisch (bzw. die dadurch entstehende Harnsäure) zu verarbeiten.  

Das kann helfen: Achte auch einen etwas geringeren Fleischanteil im Futter (z.B. maximal 50%) und entlaste den Organismus hin und wieder mit einem Veggy Tag. Zudem kannst Du bei Leckerli auf vegetarische Leckereien umsteigen.
